 Nazarene Missions International – Children’s Mission Study Topics for 2011-2012

 

September: Africa – An Overview

Goal: To help children understand Africa is a diverse continent with many young people who have needs similar to their own.


Focus: An overview of Africa provides glimpses into its culture and shows how the gospel impacts the children who live there.


Scripture: “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life” (John 8:12)

 

 

October: Cape Verde

Goal: To help children understand God calls people from all countries to serve as missionaries..


Focus: The story of Eugenio [yew-JEEN-ee-oh} Duarte [DWAHRT] tells how God called hi, as a young African boy and then led him to become a missionary leader on the Africa Region and then a general superintendent.


Scripture: “Come, follow me,' Jesus said, 'and I will make you fishers of men'” (Matthew 4:19)


November: Swaziland

Goal: To help children realize God gives all people unique talents and abilities.


Focus: Education is not taken for granted in Swaziland, The Church of the Nazarene operates many schools in order to educate and share the gospel with children.


Scripture: “You created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well” (Psalm 139:13-14)


December: Zambia

Goal: To inform children of ways Nazarene Compassionate Ministries helps orphans in Zambia who suffer as a result of AIDS.


Focus: Nazarene Compassionate Ministries is helping hundreds of orphaned children and their caregivers throughout Africa due to the ongoing crisis brought on by AIDS pandemic.


Scripture: “Let the children come yo me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these” (Matthew 19:14)


January: Kenya

Goal: To help children know God has a plan for their lives and may call some of them to serve as missionaries.


Focus: Tim eby, a missionary in Africa, was called by God to serve others in a unique way.


Scripture: “For I know the plans I have for you.” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” (Jeremiah 29:11)


February: Ethiopia

Goal: To make children aware that most missionaries musr have language training in order to serve in other countries.


Focus: Language training can be challenging and difficult for the missionaries family and sometimes affects the way they live in another country.


Scripture: “I have raised you up for this very purpose, that I might show you my power and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth” (Exodus 9:16)


March: Uganda

Goal: To help children understand the importance of working together, sharing what God has given to them, and serving others.


Focus: The Christian community helps people who live in refugee camps.


Scripture: “All the believers were together and had everything in common. Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved” (Acts 2:44-47)


April: Cote d'lvoire

Goal: To help children understand the importance of telling people about Jesus and showing His love.


Focus: Nazarenes in Cote d'lvoire show God's love as they tell people about Jesus at the Nazarene health center.


Scripture: “Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth” (1 John 3:18)


May: Benin

Goal: To help children learn how Nazarenes start churches in other countries.


Focus: Missionaries and African Nazarenes worked together to “plant” the Church of the Nazarene in the country of Benin.


Scripture: “The gospel must first be preached to all nations” (John 8:12)


June: South Africa

Goal: To help children understand it is good to build friendships with people from other cultures.


Focus: Missionaries in South Africa have to learn how to work with people from many culture backgrounds.


Scripture: “Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array” (Genesis 2:1)


July: Mozambique

Goal: To help children learn more about Mozambique and how we can respond with compassion to the needs of its people.


Focus: The Flood of 2000 tells about the loss, fear, and needs of common people in Mozambique.


Scripture: “I command you to be openhanded toward your brothers and toward the poor and needy” (Deuteronomy 15:11)


August: Madagascar

Goal: To help children love and understand God as a loving Father who has a particular concern for orphans.


Focus: The church's work in Madagascar includes caring for children who are without parents.


Scripture: “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world” (James 1:27)
